Craft
Your story needs to engage your readers (and potential agents and publishers) with memorable characters, a gripping plot, and artful prose. You need to know that your first chapter makes powerful promises that will capture your reader’s attention and that by the last chapter you have fulfilled those promises beyond satisfaction. A well-crafted story is the best tool you can have for building your audience and touching their lives.
Meaning
Your story needs to embody meaning through the rich experience it delivers, without relying on preaching to get the message across. Your characters’ beliefs need to be clearly demonstrated in their actions as well as their words. A meaningful story will impact your reader’s desires as much as their intellect, revealing the emptiness of evil and stirring up a longing for things that are true and beautiful.
Authenticity
Your story needs to come from YOU. Let it flow out of your questions and longings, the things that have moved and changed you. Your writing is an amazing opportunity to dig deeper into the things that make your stories meaningful to you. No one else sees life through quite the same lens, and your story may be the outside perspective that awakens your reader to a new way of seeing.

A developmental critique makes sure your story delivers a satisfying emotional experience, fulfills your promises to the reader, and takes them on an adventure that will continue to make an impact after “The End.” I will help you to identify your story’s greatest strengths and weaknesses, work with you to come up with creative solutions to structural problems, and encourage you to dig deeper into the heart of your story–the reason it refuses to let you go.

A line edit polishes your prose to enhance the reader’s enjoyment of your art, smooths out any snags that might jolt the reader out of the flow of the story, and makes sure your communication is successful at the sentence and paragraph level. I do my best to preserve your authentic voice while working with you to focus your personal style and strengthen its best qualities.
